City to Surf 2015

21 Jul 15 - 02:58 PM

The City to Surf is happening on Sunday the 9th of August, it is expected that more than 80000 competitors will attempt to tackle the gruelling 14km course. It is the perfect time to pay us a visit at Synergy Healthcare to see how we can optimise your run!

With the 2015 City to Surf fast approaching those of us tackling the 14km course have more than likely been putting in the hard yards training!

The most common injuries we are presented with here at Synergy Healthcare in regards to running are overuse-related injuries frequently affecting the lower extremity (hips, knees and ankles). Some very common examples include;

  • Patello-femoral pain syndrome: One of the most common presentations to sport injury clinics in which the runner experiences pain over the front of the knee (click here for more info on PFPS)
  • Iliotibial band friction syndrome: Another very common complaint amongst runners with it estimated that it accounts for 12% of all running injuries (click here for more info on ITB syndrome)
  • Plantar Fasciitis: Again another common presentation amongst runners presenting with either deep heel pain or even arch pain in the foot (click here for more info on Plantar Fasciitis)

These conditions can be the result of a combination of factors including the type of training undertaken, footwear utilised and running biomechanics. Here at Synergy Healthcare we specialise in treating these types of injuries as well as putting in place some preventative measures to ensure you remain pain free for the remainder of your training and throughout the race.

Handy hint: Pay specific attention to your running shoes as it has been documented that they can lose between 30% and 50% of their shock absorption after about  400 km of running. This can play a major role in whether you're getting injured or keeping injury free!!

So if you are currently training for the City to Surf or have just dusted off your joggers and experiencing any pain or discomfort give us a call on 9522 2125 to see how we can help you optimise your run!
