Tibialis Posterior Syndrome

What is it?

Irritation of the tendon due to increased tension in groove behind the inner ankle (“medial malleolus”).

What are the symptoms?

  • Local inflammation, tenderness, clicking
  • Diffuse pain behind medial malleolus and navicular
  • Pain with passive pronation (foot rolling in), active supination (foot rolling out)
  • Possible pain and weakness with heel lifts

What are the causes?

  • Occurs in sports: skiing, skating, running
